Last weekend the Christmas tree festival was held in the cChurch and, as last time was a great success. Over 30 trees were decorated by village associations and every one of them was brilliantly conceived and constructed. Several of the trees have been retained in the Church over the Christmas period.
Whilst the festival was on there were many events going on in and around the Church varying from piano performances from the pupils of the two resident music teachers through a performance by the village folk band - The John Buswell Band to traditional tea and cakes in the village hall. Saturday night saw the exceptional performance by Chris Blake, well known concert pianist followed by a recital by the Harborough ladies choir - The Songbirds. A full house audience had a really enjoyable evening followed by wine and mince pies. We hope to do something similar around Easter time.
The Sunday was the Tree on the Green afternoon and we waited with trepidation to see how many would brave the appalling weather and make it to the Church for our Carols and readings.
We were so gratified when another full house came into the Church and sang their hearts out in conjunction with the Benefice Choir. Readings by Dorothy Judd, Linda Lake and Martin Clarke rounded off what everyone agreed was a lovely village event to kick off the Christmas period.
So many people were involved in all these events and our sincere thanks go out to everyone involved. In particular the Friends of Clipston Church should be mentioned for much of the organisation. Funds raised will go towards the replacement of the south aisle roof which we had to cover with tarpaulins before the festival to avoid rain spoiling the superb displays.
